Supporting Community Connections Community Needs Assessment

In 2012, G.O.A.L.S For Women engaged African American Community members across all ages, genders and sexual orientations on behalf of Sacramento County Division of Behavioral Health Services under a former Suicide Prevention Contract in order to understand perceived mental health needs and strategies to help prevent African American suicide.   G.O.A.L.S For Women also assessed for the appropriateness of a phone support service as an effective strategy to reduce isolation for African American Community members across all age groups, genders and sexual orientation. .

G.O.A.L.S For Women and our partners developed and distributed a survey to diverse African American community members.   The completed surveys were gathered and sent to Sacramento County Department of Health Care Services, Division of Behavioral Health Services, Research, Evaluation and Performance Outcomes Unit (REPO) for analysis. For more information on those findings please contact Mary Nakamura, LCSW, Cultural Competence and Ethnic Services Health Program Manager, Sacramento County Department of Health Care Services, Division of Behavioral Health Services, 7001-A East Parkway, Suite 400, Sacramento, CA 95823; e-mail: nakamuram@saccounty.net”
